Meet the Art-ist
Ox Matiu (Ngāpuhi)
Ox is based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa. Their bones whakapapa to the Far North, their skeleton was shaped by the whenua of Te Awamutu and Ōhaupō, their skins were cloaked by their Pākehā papa and Māori mama.
This site has been created to host their many experiments and share them with the wider world. They figured it was time to create a living archive of their work away from the vapid, mindless control of corporate media sites.

Current Projects
- Open Access Collage [&] Zines: This project utilizes Open Access initiatives hosted across many museums and galleries around the world to create new art pieces — Open Access, also described as Creative Commons Zero, allows materials to be re-used for personal and commercial use free of charge. After the collage is completed, Ox researches the context of each material they used and creates an accompanying coffee-table zine that (1) outlines art and artist histories and (2) connects every item used into a single, overarching theme.
- Poetry: Ox is frequently writing. In 2026, they started publishing their poetry online and submitting to local magazines. You can expect to see their poetry page updated with new publications and drafts in future.
- Reviews: More light-hearted than those Type A reviews you see lurking about. These are opinion and thought pieces that reflect on what did and didn't resonate in different art that Ox has encountered. Perhaps you will find a two line movie review, or an in-depth poetry book breakdown.
